This is a hands-on role where you’ll be part of the day-to-day running of the facility – keeping it safe, clean, and welcoming for all ages.
You’ll supervise swimmers, assist with facility upkeep, support aquatic programmes, and ensure the pool environment is positive and well-maintained. You’ll need to bring solid experience, a safety-first approach, and a great attitude to teamwork.
Type of Employment: • Full-time, permanent position
• Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week (typically 35–40 hours)
• Rostered shifts across weekdays, weekends, public holidays, and early or late starts
Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise pool users and enforce pool rules to ensure safety
• Provide friendly and professional customer service
• Complete daily water testing and assist with cleaning and general maintenance
• Support swim school programmes, events, and school bookings
• Respond to incidents and provide first aid when required
• Work collaboratively as part of the team and follow direction from senior staff
• Keep required certifications up to date and participate in ongoing training
Hours of Work: • Minimum of 30 hours guaranteed per week
• Rostered across 7 days, including weekend, public holiday and early/late shifts
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum Skills, Experience and Qualifications: • Hold a current Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC)
• Hold a current Comprehensive or Workplace First Aid Certificate (NZQA Units 6400, 6401, and 6402)
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an aquatic or recreation environment
• Good level of physical fitness and confident in the water
• Clear communicator with a professional and friendly manner
• Able to remain calm under pressure and follow procedures
• Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand
