The Role
Building Control Officer Job Description
As a Building Control Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our district. Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations and standards.
- Providing expert advice to builders, developers, and homeowners.
- Processing building consent applications accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to promote best practices in construction and design.
- Enforcing regulations to maintain safety and quality standards in our community.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with:
- A professional qualification in the building industry, such as:
- Diploma in Building Surveying
- NZ Certificate in Carpentry or equivalent
- Craftsman Plumber and Registered Drainlayer
- Advanced Trade Certificate in Building
- Multi-Skilled Officers Certificate
- Strong communication skills and confident computer literacy.
- Good knowledge of the current building code and legislation.
- Experience in building control functions (plan processing and inspections) – preferred but not essential.
- A current driver’s licence.
