We’re looking for a friendly, motivated Shelving Assistant to join our team at the Alexandra Library. If you love order, enjoy working with people, and want to be part of a welcoming community space, this could be the perfect role for you.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

As our Shelving Assistant, you’ll help keep the library running smoothly by ensuring our collections are tidy, well-presented, and easy for customers to find. You’ll also provide basic customer service and support the team with day‑to‑day tasks that keep our library a vibrant, accessible place for everyone.

  • Shelving adult and children’s library items
  • Keeping shelves tidy and in correct order
  • Noticing and reporting damaged, misplaced, or mis‑labelled items
  • Assisting customers with basic enquiries (and referring as needed)
  • Providing basic support at the front desk when required

About you:

  • A warm, friendly, and customer‑focused approach
  • Good communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Good computer and tech skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and quickly
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Reliability, honesty, and good time management
  • A professional approach and presentation
