Council’s Community and Engagement team is passionate about creating meaningful connections with community, staff, and decision makers. We are seeking someone with specialised communications skills who will connect with a variety of audiences, through digital platforms.

This permanent full-time position will support our wider team on an array of tasks with the purpose of enhancing Council’s communication and engagement in a way that celebrates and reflects Central Otago District Council’s organisational values.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

Digital Communications Coordinator Job Description

  • Developing engaging written and visual content for digital channels
  • Social media planning, publishing, and performance analysis
  • Creating and editing video content to enhance storytelling
  • Assisting with communication campaigns and engagement initiatives
  • Using data and insights to refine and improve communication approaches
  • Exploring and applying digital tools (including AI) to enhance effectiveness
  • Assist with Council’s consultation and engagement processes
  • Assist with the administration and maintenance of Council’s photo and video library

Desired Skills and Experience

About You: 

  • Preferred tertiary level qualification in communications, social media, or public relations
  • Experience producing high-quality written and visual communications
  • Experience in social media platforms and analytics tools – e.g. meta business suite
  • Preferred experience within a communications, public relations agency, or media team
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Video development and editing capabilities
  • Excellent time management, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with attention to detail
