We are seeking a Building Control Officer – Processing to join our Regulatory Services team and contribute to maintaining strong building control practices and Building Consent Authority (BCA) standards.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

BCO - Processing Job Description 

As a Building Control Officer – Processing, you will assess building consent applications and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with the Building Act 2004, the New Zealand Building Code and relevant regulations.

  • Assess building consent applications for compliance
  • Review plans, specifications, engineering documentation and producer statements
  • Identify appropriate compliance pathways including acceptable and alternative solutions
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) where required
  • Ensure regulatory decisions are technically robust and well documented
  • Support the Council’s BCA accreditation and quality assurance systems

Desired Skills and Experience

About you: 

  • A recognised building qualification meeting Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
  • Experience in building consent processing, ideally Residential 1–2
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code
  • Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical regulatory environment
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
