We are seeking a Building Control Officer – Processing to join our Regulatory Services team and contribute to maintaining strong building control practices and Building Consent Authority (BCA) standards.
As a Building Control Officer – Processing, you will assess building consent applications and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with the Building Act 2004, the New Zealand Building Code and relevant regulations.
Assess building consent applications for compliance
Review plans, specifications, engineering documentation and producer statements
Identify appropriate compliance pathways including acceptable and alternative solutions
Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) where required
Ensure regulatory decisions are technically robust and well documented
Support the Council’s BCA accreditation and quality assurance systems
Desired Skills and Experience
About you:
A recognised building qualification meeting Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
Experience in building consent processing, ideally Residential 1–2
Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code
Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical regulatory environment
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
