Our Casual Venue Staff support the successful delivery of events, daily services, and front-of-house operations at Te Puna Mahara | Cromwell Memorial Events Centre.

As part of the venue team, you’ll contribute to creating positive, safe, and engaging experiences for clients, visitors, and the wider community while helping maintain high operational standards across the venue.

Key Responsibilities: 

Venue Staff Job Description

  • Support event logistics: venue open/close, setup, cleaning, pack down
  • Assist with ushering, ticketing, and guest flow
  • Support hospitality, cinema, and bar services
  • Assist organisers, contractors, and internal teams
  • Set up basic AV, lighting, staging, and event spaces (furniture, signage)
  • Maintain cleanliness and reset spaces to standard layouts
  • Report maintenance issues and manage waste/consumables
  • Deliver professional front-of-house service and guest support
  • Manage check-in, ticketing, enquiries, and issue resolution
  • Work collaboratively and adapt to changing event needs
  • Step into varied roles as required
  • Uphold manaakitanga and engage respectfully with diverse audiences
  • Ensure health and safety compliance, identify hazards, and respond to incidents

Desired Skills and Experience

About you: 

  • Experience in events, hospitality, tourism, or venue operations
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks in fast-paced environments
  • Strategic, creative, and solutions-focused
  • Knowledge of venue operations and health & safety
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and team-oriented
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Relevant qualification (events, arts, hospitality) preferred
  • Available for evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Physically capable of event setup and manual duties
  • Customer service focus; alcohol service experience preferred
