Central Otago District Council is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to lead our Building Control team. This pivotal role provides technical and people leadership to ensure high-quality, customer-focused building control services that help our communities build safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the Building Act 2004.
You will assist the Regulatory Services Manager with mentoring, coordination, and oversight of the Building Control Team, supporting a collaborative, proactive, and high-performing team environment.
This position can be based in either Cromwell or Alexandra, offering flexibility within a modern and digitally enabled workplace.
About you:
- A professional qualification in the building industry that meets Regulation 18 under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- At least 10 years’ experience in building control, with competencies in Residential 1–3 and Commercial 1–2 processing and inspections.
- Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004, NZ Building Code, and relevant territorial authority legislation.
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and dispute resolution skills with the ability to guide and develop others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation and customer correspondence.
- Strong computer literacy and familiarity with digital consenting systems.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- A valid New Zealand driver’s licence.
