The Destination Content Executive brings the stories of Central Otago to life through compelling, high-quality authentic photo, video and written content that inspires visitation, supports local businesses, and strengthens the region’s reputation as a distinctive visitor destination.
The role is responsible for creating, managing and distributing content across Tourism Central Otago’s digital channels, including websites, social media and email newsletters. The role identifies and shares stories that showcase Central Otago’s landscapes, cycling and trail experiences, food and wine, arts, heritage, events, communities and people.
The role uses digital tools, data insights and emerging technologies, including AI where appropriate, to improve the efficiency, reach and effectiveness of content activity, while ensuring storytelling remains accurate, responsible, place-based and aligned with Central Otago’s regional identity and destination management goals.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Destination storytelling and content creation
Create compelling, accurate and authentic content that brings Central Otago’s places, people, experiences and stories to life across digital and marketing channels.
Digital channel management
Manage and maintain Tourism Central Otago’s websites, social media channels and email communications, ensuring content is current, engaging, accessible and aligned with destination priorities.
Campaign and marketing delivery
Support the planning, delivery and optimisation of destination marketing campaigns, seasonal promotions, digital advertising and marketing activations.
Industry and stakeholder engagement
Build strong relationships with tourism operators, community partners and industry stakeholders, identifying content opportunities and supporting operators to improve their digital visibility and content quality.
Analytics, reporting and optimisation
Monitor and report on website, social media, newsletter and campaign performance, using insights to improve content, audience engagement and marketing effectiveness.
Systems, innovation and responsible practice
Use and maintain key digital platforms, content libraries and marketing systems, while identifying opportunities to use emerging tools, including AI, to improve efficiency, reach and effectiveness in a responsible way
The Destination Content Executive will at all times act in accordance with the policies and direction of the Head of Destination, TCO.
Desired Skills and Experience
About you:
Work Experience and Knowledge
An understanding of the tourism industry
Capture and editing of Photo and Video content (Adobe Creative Suite)
Experience with digital analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Suite, SEM Rush
Experience in Social Media management
Experience in website content management (we use Silverstripe CMS)
Qualifications
Recognised tertiary qualifications relevant to this position would be advantageous.
Skills
Marketing and promotional skills.
Capture and editing of Photo and Video content (Adobe Creative Suite)
Graphic Design Skills (Adobe Creative Suite and Canva)
Excellent writing skills including writing for online channels
Knowledge of Search Engine and Generative Engine Optimisation and how it works to make informed decisions.
Experience in using tools such as Meta, Google and SEMrush to monitor content performance
Ability to keep up with technology advances and identify new opportunities
