Looking for a role where no two days are the same? You'll be out in the community conducting site visits, monitoring compliance, responding to enquiries, and working alongside a dedicated team to help keep our district safe, vibrant, and well managed.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

Monitoring and Enforcement Officer Job Description 

  • Promote and enforce compliance with the Resource Management Act, Building Act, District Plan, Council Bylaws, and other relevant legislation through education, guidance, and regulatory action.

  • Undertake site inspections and monitor resource consent conditions to assess compliance and investigate potential breaches.

  • Respond promptly to service requests from the public and Council staff, providing practical solutions and professional advice.

  • Achieve compliance outcomes using a balanced approach that includes education, communication, negotiation, and enforcement where necessary.

  • Prepare and issue permits, notices, warnings, and infringement documentation in accordance with legislative requirements and Council policies.

  • Provide accurate and professional regulatory advice to Council departments, supporting the effective delivery of the Council's Enforcement Strategy.

  • Contribute to the development and review of Council bylaws, including participation in consultation processes and hearings where required.

  • Support the delivery of Regulatory Services functions and undertake additional duties as directed by the Regulatory Services Manager.

  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to deliver responsive, customer-focused services and uphold a strong "One Team" approach.

  • Assist with related compliance and enforcement activities, including supporting other regulatory functions as operational needs require.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

About you: 

  • Tertiary qualification ideally with planning or resource management
  • Experience in local government (advantageous but not essential)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Sound analytical and report-writing skills
  • Solutions-focused approach and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
